HP Envy X2 CloverTrail Tablet Shipping Late December

According to a couple of online source the HP Envy x2 should start shipping soon. An offer starting in Japan today promises delivery starting from the 27th December (some reports say 21st) and in Germany a couple of retailers have listed the same timeframe.

The HP Envy x2 [details] is one that I know a lot of you have been interested based on the potential for a higher build quality and keyboard. No, we’re not saying the others are bad but that’s the feeling out there although do remember that there’s no digitizer layer, no USB port on the tablet and the price is relatively high. In the USA you can order one from HP for $849, dock included. Also remember that CloverTrail tablets do not support SATA drives. eMMC flash storage is implemented and max speeds are lower than on high-end SATA SSD drives.

I was impressed with the HP Envy at IDF in September. My hands-on video is below.

An order placed with HP USA today is likely to ship in the 2nd week of Jan. It’s possible that the first shipment is now sold out and that earlier orders will ship before the end of the year.

Note: HP Japan have revised their battery life figures up to 10hrs (tablet) and 19 hours (tablet and dock) but we advise taking 30% off those figures for a real-world indicator. HP USA is still saying “up to 7hrs.”

We will be testing an Acer W510 CloverTrail tablet starting from today so stay tuned to UMPCPortal for more information on the platform and products.
